Nigeria’s crude oil production plummeted to a record low of 1.603 million barrels per day in March 2025, down from 1.671 million barrels per day in February, according to the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission.

This decline coincides with President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas as the sole administrator of Rivers State, a key oil-producing region, citing instability and sabotage of an oil pipeline.

Crude oil production, excluding condensates, also decreased to 1.4 million barrels per day in March, putting Nigeria below its OPEC production quota of 1.5 million barrels per day, sparking concerns about the impact of the appointment on the state’s oil output.
