The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has claimed control of the Zamzam camp in North Darfur, a major hub for displaced people, after a four-day assault that left hundreds dead or wounded.

Tens of thousands of camp residents have fled to the nearby city of al-Fashir on foot, overwhelming shelters and leaving many without food, water, or medicine.

The RSF has denied targeting civilians, instead accusing rival forces of orchestrating a media campaign to falsely incriminate them.

The Sudan Liberation Army has called for military support from Sudan’s armed forces to protect the lives of approximately 1.5 million people in al-Fashir, as the city comes under heavy shelling and RSF ground attacks.

Up to 400,000 people have been displaced from the camp, according to a UN agency, with reports suggesting over 300 civilians have died in North Darfur.
