A 25-year-old Nigerian soldier, Private Yahaya Yunusa, has been apprehended in Kaduna State for unlawful possession of ammunition.

Yunusa, attached to the 197 Special Forces Battalion in Zamfara State, was found with 214 rounds of various calibers of linked ammunition, including 12.7×108mm and 7.62×54mmR.

He also had several ATM cards and his military identification card.

According to an operational report, Yunusa confessed to retrieving the ammunition during operations, claiming he was the operator of an Anti-Aircraft machine gun mounted on a military vehicle.

The incident raises concerns about security breaches within the military.

The military authorities have not yet commented on the ongoing investigation.
