Fifty-five out of the expected 57 All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidates have emerged ahead of the July 12 local government elections in Lagos State.

The candidates were selected at the party’s primaries held on Saturday at the APC secretariat in Ikeja, with some emerging through consensus and others via delegate voting. A total of 1,539 delegates were expected to participate in the process across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

However, primaries did not hold in Yaba LCDA and Mainland LCDA due to pending litigations, and delegates from those areas were absent.

Each council where voting took place had 27 delegates casting ballots. The Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, who announced the results, revealed that four candidates emerged via consensus:

  • Isa Jubril (Iba LCDA)
  • Motunrayo Gbadebo (Ijede LCDA)
  • Rasaq Kasali (Lekki LCDA)
  • Azeez Kareem (Otto Awori LCDA)

Some of the elected candidates include:

  • Usman Hamzat (Ifako-Ijaiye LG)
  • Hameed Aroyehun (Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA)
  • Oluyemisi Rosiji (Ojokoro LCDA)
  • Moyosore Ogunlewe (Kosofe LG)
  • Olamilekan Akindipe (Ajeromi Ifelodun LG)
  • Suleiman Yusuf (Surulere LG)

Others declared winners are:

  • Azeez Ogidan (Coker Aguda LCDA)
  • Tola Oyedele (Agboyi-Ketu LCDA)
  • Taoreed Taiwo (Ejigbo LCDA)
  • Muibat Rufia (Ojo LG)
  • Sura Animashaun (Epe LG)
  • Kehinde Oloyede (Oshodi-Isolo LG)
  • Idris Balogun (Egbe-Idimu LCDA)
  • Lawal Jakande (Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA)
  • Aminat Alabi (Iru/Victoria Island LCDA)
  • Daniel Olufemi (Itire-Ikate LCDA)
  • Jimoh Ishola (Agbado-Oke Odo LCDA), among others.

While the exercise was largely peaceful, some aspirants and their agents protested the outcome in a few LGAs. Ogala acknowledged there might be minor human errors and encouraged aggrieved members to file appeals through the APC Appeal Committee.

He also praised the delegates for their patience and cooperation, describing the process as transparent and in the party’s best interest.

Councillorship primaries were also conducted across various wards in the state.
