Africa’s representatives for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025™ have been confirmed, with Morocco, Nigeria, Egypt, and South Africa securing their places after advancing to the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
All four teams earned hard-fought quarter-final victories on a dramatic day of action that saw tension and late heroics.
Morocco were the first to book their ticket, edging Sierra Leone 1-0 after extra time, courtesy of a 115th-minute own goal. The result ended Sierra Leone’s impressive tournament debut.
Hosts Egypt followed after a remarkable comeback against Ghana. Trailing 2-0, the Young Pharaohs forced extra time with a last-gasp equaliser and went on to win the penalty shootout 5-4.
Nigeria, Africa’s most successful U-20 team, claimed their 14th World Cup qualification after a tense shootout victory over defending champions Senegal. The Flying Eagles showed composure under pressure to seal their spot.
South Africa completed the lineup with a 1-0 win over DR Congo in extra time. Thabang Mahlangu’s decisive goal deep into added time sent the Amajita through.
With these victories, Africa’s tradition of strong representation at the FIFA U-20 World Cup continues. All four teams will now turn their attention to the tournament’s semi-finals as they chase continental glory.
The FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 will take place from 27 September to 19 October 2025.
