Three Nigerians have been deported from the United States over alleged involvement in various criminal activities, as part of a broader move by the U.S. government to repatriate thousands of foreign nationals with criminal records.

The deportees arrived in Lagos on Wednesday morning aboard a Delta Airlines flight, which landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport just before 9 a.m. They were received by officials from several Nigerian government agencies, who are expected to determine further actions regarding their reintegration or prosecution.

Sources revealed that the deportation is part of the U.S. government’s plan to repatriate at least 3,000 Nigerians with criminal convictions. The initiative is linked to former President Donald Trump’s strict immigration policy, which prioritised the removal of migrants with criminal backgrounds.

Authorities in Nigeria are expected to review each case individually before deciding on the next steps.
