The prestigious global organisation confirmed her appointment in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“On behalf of all of us, thank you @obyezeks for joining @ClubdeMadrid. Your leadership, vision, and commitment to democratic values are deeply appreciated. We are honoured to count on your voice as we work to advance inclusive democracy worldwide.”

Ezekwesili also acknowledged the appointment on her official X account, saying she accepted the invitation to join the forum, which brings together over 100 democratic former leaders from more than 70 countries.

She described Club de Madrid as a body that “leverages individual and collective leadership experience and global reach to strengthen inclusive democratic practice and improve the well-being of people around the world.”

Expressing her appreciation for the group’s continued efforts, Ezekwesili noted:

“As our global context becomes even more complex, the leadership vacuum delays solutions to ‘global public bads’. I therefore deeply appreciate how these former leaders of democracies around the world continue to dedicate themselves to helping solve our global challenges and amplify opportunities for cooperation. Delighted to support.”

The club founded in 2001 and based in Madrid, Spain, t provides non-partisan, pro bono advisory support to current political leaders, civil society, and institutions around the world. Its mission includes strengthening democratic institutions, resolving political crises, and promoting inclusive governance.

The organisation also hosts Annual Policy Dialogues and Policy Labs, where experts and former heads of state engage in high-level discussions on urgent global issues. In April 2025, its Policy Dialogue focused on reforming global financial governance in line with democratic values.

One of its key initiatives, the President’s Circle, serves as a platform for open exchanges and guides the organisation’s strategic direction. Ezekwesili’s appointment further amplifies Nigeria’s voice in global democratic and governance discourse.
