A disturbing incident occurred in the early hours of Monday in the Gwarinpa area of Abuja, where heavily armed kidnappers stormed the Gwarinpa Estate, specifically targeting residents.
Although details are still emerging, eyewitnesses describe the scene as terrifying, with gunshots ringing out and residents cowering in fear.
According to eyewitness accounts, the kidnappers gained entry into the estate, overpowering the local vigilance team.
The police responded promptly, engaging the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle that lasted about 30 minutes.
Unfortunately, the kidnappers managed to abduct some residents, including a man and a woman, although the woman was later found released.
This incident bears striking similarities to another recent kidnapping case in Abuja’s Nigeria Post Army Estate, where two residents, including the wife and an in-law of Barrister Cyril Adik, were abducted by gunmen on Thursday night.
The victims’ neighbor, Austin John, recounted the harrowing experience, stating that the kidnappers entered the estate, shooting sporadically, while Adik managed to escape.
The Abuja kidnapping incidents highlight the growing concern over security in the nation’s capital.
Residents are calling on the government to improve security measures, including better road access for security patrol vehicles and the establishment of police stations for rapid response. The government is yet to comment on the incidents.
