The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Ghana in the semifinal of the Unity Cup on Wednesday night at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.

Cyriel Dessers gave Nigeria an early lead in the 14th minute with a composed finish, following a well-placed assist from S. Ismail. The Super Eagles doubled their advantage just five minutes later when Ghana’s Razak Simpson mistakenly deflected the ball into his own net.

The Black Stars struggled to respond in the first half, failing to register a single shot on target. Their frustration grew as Kamaradini Mamudu and Salis Abdul Samed were both booked within minutes for reckless tackles in the 24th and 26th minutes, respectively.

Ghana, however, found a lifeline in the second half through substitute Brandon Asante-Thomas, who pulled one back in the 70th minute to reduce the deficit.

Despite Ghana’s late push, Nigeria held on to advance to the final, where they will face Jamaica on Saturday. The Reggae Boyz booked their spot in the final after defeating Trinidad and Tobago 3-2 on Tuesday.

Ahead of the match, Ghana’s coach Otto Addo had highlighted the importance of the fixture, calling it an opportunity to “restore pride” and reignite the passion of Black Stars supporters.

The Unity Cup is a friendly tournament designed to promote cultural ties and unity among African nations and the diaspora. Played in venues like London, the competition blends sporting excellence with cultural celebration, drawing fans from around the world.
