The management of Delta State University (DELSU) has suspended academic activities due to ongoing insecurity affecting the institution’s environment in Abraka town.

The suspension was announced by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Asagba, in a statement issued on Wednesday, directing all students to remain indoors until the management is certain of the safety of both staff and students.

This decision comes ahead of an emergency security meeting convened by the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

The insecurity in Abraka is attributed to a recent surge in kidnappings, which led to a clash between security operatives and suspected kidnappers, resulting in the deaths of four suspects.

The incident has sparked reprisal attacks targeting Hausa residents, with fears of a full-scale ethnic conflict brewing.
