Nigeria’s Super Falcons have retained their status as Africa’s highest-ranked women’s football team, according to the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking released on June 12.

Despite a minimal increase of just 0.8 points — moving from 1622.49 to 1623.29 — the nine-time African champions remain 36th globally and first on the continent. The new rankings reflect matches played since the last update on March 6, 2025.

Although Nigeria had no matches during the previous FIFA window, they returned to action in May-June, facing Cameroon twice. The Super Falcons secured one win and drew the other, helping them maintain their continental lead.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana remain second in Africa and 54th globally, despite winning all four of their recent matches. However, they lost 1.57 points in the process, dropping from 1490.06 to 1488.49.

Morocco, standout performers at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, lost eight points and now sit at 60th with 1419.63 points. Cameroon showed the biggest improvement among African teams, rising two places to 64th with a 7.3-point gain, despite losing to Nigeria.

Zambia dropped slightly to 65th after losing 4.67 points. Their recent form has been inconsistent, with two draws and two losses in their last four games.

Elsewhere, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire retained their previous positions at 66th and 72nd, respectively, with no change in points. Ghana recorded one loss and one draw, while Côte d’Ivoire notched a win and a draw.

Further down the table, Mali (78th), Senegal (81st), and Algeria (82nd) all remained unchanged, as their games during the period ended in draws. On the global stage, the United States hold the top spot despite a loss to Brazil, who have now surged to fourth place. Spain and Germany continue to trail closely behind.

Egypt recorded the most significant movement among African teams, jumping seven places to 93rd — the largest leap in the latest rankings.

FIFA’s next Women’s World Ranking will be published on August 7, 2025, shortly after the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The men’s update is scheduled for July 10, 2025.
