A devastating attack by suspected armed herdsmen on the Yelewata community in Benue State has resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and one Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, with 16 others injured.
The incident occurred around 10 pm on Friday, plunging the area into panic as gunmen opened fire on residents. In response to a distress call, operatives of the Nigerian
Army and NSCDC were deployed to the community but were ambushed in Daudu, leading to the fatalities.
The injured are receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, where medical personnel have made an urgent appeal for blood donations.
Authorities say the exact number of fatalities remains unclear, as investigations and recovery efforts continue in the area.
Citizens and humanitarian organizations have been urged to provide immediate support to the victims, especially through medical assistance and blood supplies.
