Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the recent attack in Yelwata, Benue State, that left over 100 innocent lives feared lost, describing the incident as a national emergency that demands immediate attention and decisive action.

Atiku expressed deep anguish and shock over the devastating news, emphasizing that the killings underscore the escalating insecurity crisis facing Nigeria.

He called on the Federal Government and Benue State authorities to launch a prompt and transparent investigation into the attack, enhance security presence in the region, and provide compensation and support to survivors and bereaved families.

Atiku also urged Nigerians to unite in condemning the atrocity and hold leaders accountable for the rising insecurity.

“We must hold our leaders accountable and insist on sustainable solutions to the violent tragedies claiming lives across the country,” he said, adding that the government should engage with affected communities through dialogue and traditional leadership to restore confidence and foster resilience.

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has condemned the attack, stating that nothing justifies the taking of innocent lives.

However, angry youths protested in Makurdi, demanding action over the alleged killing of scores of residents by suspected herdsmen, and calling for the governor to address them personally.
