The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 12 travelers from Kaduna State who were lynched by a mob in Plateau State while en route to a wedding.
The victims, who were traveling in an 18-seater bus, reportedly lost their way and inadvertently entered an area plagued by terrorist assaults, where they were set upon by a mob.
The NSF chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, described the attack as a “barbaric and cowardly act” and called for swift and decisive justice.
The forum extended its deepest condolences to the government and people of Kaduna State, particularly to the bereaved families affected by the heinous attack. They emphasized that such mindless violence against innocent citizens is unacceptable and undermines national unity.
The NSF urged the Nigerian Police Force to improve its strategic intelligence-gathering capacity to prevent similar tragedies and called on the Federal Government to equip security agencies with modern surveillance and communication tools.
They also appealed to citizens to remain calm and law-abiding, warning against reprisal attacks that could escalate tensions.
The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, described the mob action as “totally condemnable and avoidable,” while the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, called for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators without delay.
President Bola Tinubu also condemned the attack, asserting that the freedom of movement for all citizens is “non-negotiable” and directing the Nigerian Police Force and other intelligence agencies to swiftly bring the attackers to justice.
