World record holder and Nigerian sprint queen, Tobi Amusan, will return to the track today (Tuesday) as she lines up for the women’s 100m hurdles at the 64th edition of the prestigious Golden Spike athletics meet in Ostrava, Czechia.

Fresh off an electrifying performance at the Paris Diamond League where she clocked a season-best 12.24s to finish second, Amusan is looking to further sharpen her form as the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo draw closer. Her Paris run was her second-fastest time ever, trailing only her 2022 world record of 12.12s set in Eugene, Oregon.

Amusan will face a competitive field that includes Alaysha Johnson of the United States, Elena Carraro of Italy, Sarah Lavin of Ireland, Hungary’s Anna Toth, and Slovakia’s Viktoria Forster. Despite the competition, the Nigerian remains the clear favourite and a major attraction in Ostrava.

In the men’s 110m hurdles, Olympic and three-time world champion Grant Holloway will duel with compatriot Dylan Beard, who recently impressed at the Continental Tour Gold meets in Turku and Zagreb. Matheus Lima of Brazil is among the top contenders in the men’s 400m hurdles.

The women’s 400m event will see Femke Bol, Olympic and World medallist in the 400m hurdles, switch gears as she makes her flat 400m season debut against top names like Natalia Bukowiecka and Salwa Eid Naser.

Veteran Ivorian sprinter Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith will square off in the women’s 100m against Cambrea Sturgis, Zoe Hobbs, and Amy Hunt in what promises to be a tight sprint showdown.

India’s Olympic and two-time World Championships javelin gold medallist Neeraj Chopra will also be in action as he competes for the fifth time this season. The Golden Spike meet forms part of his build-up to defending his world title in Tokyo.

Australian teenage sprint star Gout Gout, who stunned the athletics world by clocking 20.04s over 200m at just 17 years old, will test himself against Cuba’s in-form Reynier Mena, a double Diamond League winner this season.

In the men’s 400m, Jonas Phijffers and Christopher Morales-Williams headline the field, while Peter Bol and Samuel Chapple are top contenders in the men’s 800m.

In the women’s 800m, South Africa’s world indoor champion Prudence Sekgodiso will look to maintain her dominant form in what is expected to be one of the meet’s most thrilling middle-distance contests.

With a star-studded cast and global champions across events, the 2025 Golden Spike meet promises fireworks—and Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan will be right at the heart of it.
