Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has signed a new three-year contract extension with Premier League side Nottingham Forest, reaffirming his commitment to the club amid ongoing interest from top European teams.

The Nigerian forward, who initially joined Forest from Union Berlin in 2022, has impressed with his physical presence, intelligent runs, and crucial goals, playing a pivotal role in helping the club maintain its top-flight status since returning to the Premier League.

Awoniyi’s new deal, which extends his stay at the City Ground until 2028, is seen as a major boost for the club as they aim to consolidate their place in the league and push for mid-table stability next season.
“I’m grateful to Nottingham Forest for believing in me,” Awoniyi said in a club statement. “This club has felt like home from the start, and I’m excited about the future we’re building together. I want to repay the fans and everyone at the club with my performances on the pitch.”

Despite injury setbacks during the 2023/24 season, the 26-year-old still managed to contribute key goals and assists, cementing his reputation as one of the most reliable forwards in Forest’s squad. His work ethic and commitment have endeared him to the Forest faithful.
Head coach Nuno Espírito Santo welcomed the contract extension, describing Awoniyi as “a vital member of our team whose attitude and quality continue to inspire the squad.”
Since joining the club, Awoniyi has scored several important goals, including match-winners against the likes of West Ham, Arsenal, and Southampton. He is expected to play an even more prominent role in Forest’s attacking plans next season.

The contract extension also signals Forest’s intent to hold on to their key assets as they prepare for the 2025/26 campaign.
