A Ugandan military helicopter with eight people on board has crashed at Aden Adde International Airport in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
The crash occurred in the airport’s military section, and a fire broke out but was quickly contained by emergency services.
The cause of the crash and casualty figures are unclear. The Somali Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into the incident.
According to Ahmed Maalim, head of the authority, the helicopter had flown in from the Balidogle airbase in the Lower Shabelle region.
Ugandan troops are part of an African Union force helping the Somali government fight al-Shabab militants, which has been waging a brutal insurgency in Somalia.
The crash has raised concerns about the safety and security of the military operations in the region.
