The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Bago, has declared a state of emergency on the General Hospital in Minna due to its severe deterioration and inability to meet the healthcare demands of the state’s growing population.
The hospital, constructed over five decades ago, is no longer adequate, and the governor has constituted a committee to assess the facility and propose practical solutions.
The committee’s recommendations will guide the demolition of the current structure and the phased reconstruction of new units and wards.
During the renovation period, essential departments and services will be temporarily relocated to select primary healthcare centers across the state to ensure continuity of care.
The governor emphasized the need for a modern, functional, and efficient health facility that reflects the state’s vision for quality healthcare delivery.
The decision is part of a broader plan to revamp the entire healthcare sector in the state, ensuring citizens have access to quality medical services.
