The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the arrest of two key suspects, Abraham Temayi Vumbunu and Elijah Temayi Vumbunu, in connection with the high-profile $4 million Ecobank robbery that occurred in Bulawayo on October 3, 2024.
The suspects were apprehended in South Africa on July 5, 2025, and extradition proceedings are underway to bring them back to Zimbabwe to face justice.
The police investigation, which involved Interpol and regional law enforcement, tracked the suspects down after weeks of surveillance.
The authorities are still pursuing other suspects linked to the case and have reiterated their commitment to apprehending criminals who flee to neighboring countries.
The police have also urged the media and public to exercise restraint in reporting on the ongoing investigations to avoid compromising active leads and operations.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the case, which raised questions about the security of banking institutions in the country.
The suspects’ extradition and further investigations will likely shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the heist.
