The Lagos State Police Command has announced a full restriction on vehicular movement across the state on Saturday, July 12, 2025, to ensure security and maintain order during the local government elections.

In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the police said the movement restriction would be enforced from 3:00 am to 3:00 pm on election day. The restriction covers all roads and waterways within the jurisdiction of Lagos State.

The command noted that the restriction is part of comprehensive security measures, jointly implemented with other agencies under the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), to safeguard the electoral process across all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

Exemptions to the restriction include:

  • Emergency and medical workers
  • Accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC)
  • Accredited journalists and election observers

All exempted individuals must carry LASIEC-certified identification tags throughout the election period.

Additional security guidelines include:

  • No armed escorts or security aides will be allowed at polling units or collation centers.
  • Sirens and vehicles with covered number plates are banned from election areas.
  • Only essential service vehicles, such as ambulances, will be permitted.

The command urged Lagos residents to comply fully with the directives, stressing that the movement ban is necessary to ensure a peaceful and credible election.
