Chelsea FC defender Tosin Adarabioyo made an emotional return to his roots on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, as he headlined the inaugural Adarabioyo Youth Cup — a grassroots football tournament held in his honour at the historic Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.

Organised in partnership with the Lagos State Football Association, the event served as both a talent development initiative and a symbolic homecoming for the 26-year-old, who was visiting Nigeria officially for the first time.

The maiden edition of the tournament concluded with Eko Boys FC edging 36 Lion FC 1-0 in a thrilling final, setting the stage for what is expected to become a fixture in the Nigerian youth football calendar.

Adarabioyo, visibly emotional, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to nurturing local football talent.

“I’m proud to give back and help support the next generation of footballers in Nigeria. This is just the beginning,” he said during the event.

The tournament was designed as a long-term platform to discover and develop promising players, with scouts, coaches, and grassroots supporters in attendance from across Lagos. For many young footballers, it offered a rare opportunity to showcase their skills in front of professionals who could help shape their careers.

Beyond the matches, Adarabioyo took time to interact with the players, engage fans, and share advice based on his journey through professional football — from Manchester to London, and now, back to his Nigerian roots.

The Adarabioyo Youth Cup is expected to grow in scale and influence in the coming years, aligning with Adarabioyo’s vision to make a lasting impact on the development of football in Nigeria.
