Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent Nigeria at the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit.
The high-level summit, scheduled from July 27 to 29, brings together world leaders to assess progress since the inaugural 2021 edition and chart pathways for building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable global food systems.
Shettima will join other heads of state and senior officials in discussions focused on transforming critical value chains, including the coffee industry, and advancing Nigeria’s ongoing food security and agricultural innovation agenda.
He will also participate in ministerial roundtables and side events, including one on public finance, trade, and responsible investment for accelerating agricultural transitions.
The summit aims to inspire renewed commitment among participating nations to build sustainable food systems that can withstand climate shocks, ensure nutrition, and reduce hunger worldwide.
Shettima outlined three key objectives for Nigeria’s delegation: positioning Nigeria as a leader of thought on African food systems reform, leveraging international partnerships aligned with domestic priorities, and advancing a private sector-led model for continental food transformation.
After participating in the summit’s activities, Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria.
