The Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, has passed away. He died on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja after a brief illness.
The news of his death was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Bauchi State Governor, Mukhtar Gidado. Governor Bala Mohammed expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the family, BASIEC, and the people of Bauchi State.
Describing the late Hardawa as a statesman and seasoned public servant, Governor Mohammed praised his meritorious contributions to both the state and the country. “He was a former Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa states, where he served with integrity, diligence, and fairness—qualities that defined his distinguished career,” the statement read.
As BASIEC Chairman, Hardawa was recognized for his role in strengthening grassroots democracy through credible and transparent electoral processes. His unwavering commitment to institutional development and the rule of law earned him the respect of colleagues and political stakeholders alike.
The Governor remembered Hardawa as a man of wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership, whose contributions will be greatly missed as Bauchi continues its democratic journey.
Governor Mohammed also extended his condolences to Hardawa’s immediate family, friends, associates, and the people of Hardawa and the Misau Emirate Council. He prayed that Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family the strength to bear the loss.
The funeral prayer (Janazah) is scheduled to take place today, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi by 5:00 p.m.
