The gesture comes after D’Tigress defeated Mali 78–64 in the final of the 2025 AfroBasket Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, clinching their seventh continental title and extending their unbeaten streak in the competition to 29 games.

The national honour and financial rewards underscore the government’s appreciation of the team’s dedication, excellence, and the pride they have brought to the nation through their dominance in African basketball.

This recognition places D’Tigress among the most celebrated teams in Nigeria’s sporting history, with players and coaches hailed for their commitment and consistency on the court.
