A fire incident at Egbin Power Plc has damaged a critical 150MVA power transformer belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, resulting in widespread power supply disruption across parts of Lagos and Ogun states.

The fire, which broke out at about 6:30 a.m. on August 5, 2025, at the Egbin Transmission Substation, was caused by a faulty 33kV instrument transformer installed by Egbin Power Plc.

The damage caused oil to leak from the transformer, leading to a temporary reduction in bulk power supply to several transmission substations, including Ikorodu and Odogunyan 132/33kV transmission substations.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has apologized to electricity customers in the affected areas and is working diligently to replace the damaged transformer and restore normal power supply as soon as possible.
