Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare opened his goal account for the 2025/26 Belgian Jupiler Pro League season on Sunday, but his strike could not prevent Genk from slipping to a 2-1 defeat away to Standard Liege.
The 24-year-old, who has been at the centre of transfer speculation linking him with Serie A giants AC Milan and Atalanta as well as Premier League side Fulham, started the game on the bench. He was introduced in the 67th minute for Jarne Steuckers and wasted little time making an impact, scoring just three minutes later to halve the deficit.

Despite his quick contribution, Genk could not find an equaliser, suffering their second defeat in three league outings this term. Thorsten Fink’s men now sit 14th in the table with a single point from a possible nine, having scored three goals and conceded five for a goal difference of minus two.
Arokodare was Genk’s standout performer last season, netting 21 goals across the regular season and play-offs to finish as the league’s top scorer. His prolific form helped the Limburg club secure a place in the UEFA Europa League for the current campaign.

The lanky forward will aim to build on his first strike of the season when Genk travel to face Oud-Heverlee Leuven in a match-day four clash on Friday, August 15.
