The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to refund workers’ funds allegedly diverted from the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and to immediately constitute the Governing Board of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).
Failure to meet these demands will result in a nationwide industrial action, according to a communiqué released after the NLC Central Working Committee meeting on August 13, 2025.
NLC President Joe Ajaero emphasized that Nigerian workers will not stand idly by while their hard-earned resources are stolen, describing the government’s actions as a direct attack on workers’ rights and social protection.
The NLC also dissolved its Edo State leadership without disclosing specific reasons.
The labour union accused the government of neglecting workers’ welfare and undermining pension administration, stressing that the alleged diversion of funds must be addressed urgently. The demands include returning all diverted funds within seven working days and properly constituting the PENCOM board in full compliance with the law.
