The Kebbi State Police Command has refuted a social media report alleging that Christian children rescued from kidnappers were kept in a Muslim-based orphanage in Birnin Kebbi.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, described the claim as false, mischievous, and intended to malign the image of the police.

According to Abubakar, the report — allegedly authored by a corps member — claimed that a four-year-old boy, identified as Uzochukwu, was found in an orphanage, where he supposedly revealed that police officers arrested his kidnappers, arraigned them in court, and then placed him and other Christian children in the facility.

“The command categorically refutes this publication, condemning it as a mischievous narrative calculated to undermine the integrity, unwavering commitment, and professionalism of our officers in their relentless efforts to combat crime in Kebbi State,” the statement read.

The police urged the public to disregard the rumour, while warning individuals and groups against spreading unfounded claims that could cause disaffection and mistrust in the state.

Abubakar further assured residents that the command would continue to partner with credible media professionals in sensitising the public about police operations and in curbing the spread of fake news.
