Bamidele Akingboye, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the November 16, 2024, Ondo State gubernatorial election, has passed away.
He died on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos. Akingboye, a renowned businessman and philanthropist, was known for his unwavering integrity, visionary leadership, and community-building initiatives.
He held the traditional title of Olowomeye I of Ikaleland and was the CEO of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems, as well as President of WeAfrica Group.
Akingboye contested against incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the recent gubernatorial election.
His death has been confirmed by his spokesman, Oyeniyi Iwakun, who described him as a fulfilled and purposeful individual who left a lasting impact. Akingboye is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings, with burial arrangements to be communicated later.
