The National Assembly has rejected Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s attempt to resume her legislative duties, citing that her six-month suspension remains in effect until the Court of Appeal delivers its judgment.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, was suspended in March 2025 following a heated exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements in the Red Chamber.

Despite a Federal High Court ruling in favor of the Senate, Akpoti-Uduaghan proceeded to the appellate court, which has yet to deliver its verdict.

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, stated that the suspension took effect on March 6, 2025, and the matter remains sub judice, preventing her reinstatement.

The letter read, “The matter, therefore, remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension will stand until the Court of Appeal issues a definitive verdict, leaving her constituents without representation in the Red Chamber.
