Former world champion and 100m hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan, has taken aim at Nigerian sports authorities over what she described as the poor and embarrassing kits handed to athletes ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo..

Just hours before the championships kick off, Amusan expressed her frustration in a Snapchat video, accusing the Athletics Federation of Nigeria of “unprofessionalism and lack of coordination.”

According to her, while other nations provide their athletes with fully stocked suitcases, Nigeria’s contingent received their kits in nylon bags with very few items inside.

“This country will steadily embarrass you. Una come say make people no switch allegiance? Una never ready!” she said in Pidgin.

Amusan further criticised the quality and quantity of the gear. “They gave us just two sets. Competition gear wey if you sweat like this, the colour go peel for body. Where long sleeves? No singlet, nothing. We never even get clothes wey we go wear for them,” she lamented.

She also revealed that despite officials collecting shoe sizes from the athletes, no footwear was provided. “So as it is now, I have to wear my Adidas black tights. My fans, they collected our shoe sizes,” she added.

In a caption on her video, the hurdler hinted at a possible nationality switch, writing in Pidgin: “abeg which country dey find athletes?” — alluding to Turkey-bound Favour Ofili’s decision to switch allegiance.

Amusan, who leads Nigeria’s 15-athlete contingent, is set to compete against the world’s best when the World Athletics Championships begin in Tokyo from September 13 to 21.
