Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped one place in the latest FIFA World Rankings, moving from 44th to 45th globally, while retaining sixth position in Africa.

The new rankings, released on Thursday via FIFA’s official X handle, reflect the team’s continued struggles under Coach Eric Chelle amid an inconsistent 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. This marks Nigeria’s second straight drop, having fallen from 43rd to 44th in August after disappointing international results.

Across Africa, Morocco remains the top-ranked side at 11th in the world after winning eight of their last nine matches. Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire complete the continent’s top five ahead of Nigeria.

Elsewhere, Lesotho dropped to 153rd, while Benin Republic — Nigeria’s next opponent — climbed to 93rd. South Africa, who held the Eagles to a 1-1 draw in June, rose to 55th, strengthening their World Cup qualifying push. Zimbabwe recorded the steepest fall, sliding nine places to 125th.

On the women’s side, Nigeria’s Super Falcons remain ranked 36th globally. Spain’s women’s national team replaced the United States at the top of the FIFA Women’s Rankings.
