Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped Hon. Denty Laven, a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly representing Pankshin South Constituency, from his home in the Dong area of Jos North Local Government Area.
According to reports, the lawmaker was abducted by unknown gunmen who trailed him from an outing with friends.
This incident highlights the growing insecurity in Plateau State, where over 500 people have been killed and 164 local communities displaced in the last two years due to attacks blamed on Fulani herdsmen.
Stanley Kavwam, Deputy Publicity Secretary of Middle Belt Forum, described the killings as a jihadist agenda fueled by the indoctrination of young people in the North.
The family member of the abducted lawmaker expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the area, noting that the kidnappers have not yet made any ransom demands.
This incident is the latest in a string of kidnappings in the region, with residents calling for increased security presence to protect lives and property.
