Ethiopian long-distance runner Shewarge Alene, the recent winner of the 2025 adidas Stockholm Marathon, has tragically passed away at the age of 30.
According to the Stockholm Marathon organizers, Alene became unwell during a training session and was rushed to the hospital, where her life could not be saved.
Alene’s impressive career was marked by 12 victories in 27 marathons, with a personal best time of 2:27:26 achieved in Cape Town, South Africa in 2023. Her most recent triumph was at the Stockholm Marathon in May, where she finished with a time of 2:30:38.
The news of Alene’s death has sent shockwaves through the running community, with tributes pouring in from fellow athletes and fans.
