Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has denied reports that he promised to step down for a younger candidate in the 2027 presidential election, describing the reports as misrepresentation of his statement to the BBC Hausa Service.

According to his spokesman, Paul Ibe, Atiku emphasized that young people and other prospective presidential aspirants are free to enter the contest, and he would support a young candidate who emerges through a competitive primary without hesitation.
