Former Deputy Governor of Osun State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election in the state on the platform of the APC.

Omisore made the announcement on Saturday through a post on his X handle, stating that a formal declaration would take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the APC Secretariat in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo.

According to him, the event, themed “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams,” will begin at 10 a.m.

“My beloved people of Osun State, after deep reflection and wide consultations, I have decided to formally declare my intention to contest for the Governor of Osun State in 2026 under our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Omisore said.

He added that his campaign would focus on restoring hope, strengthening governance, and ensuring a brighter future for the people of the state.

“This is not just my mission; it is a collective one. I humbly invite you to join me as we take this bold step towards the Osun Rescue Mission 2026,” he said.

Omisore, who served as Osun State deputy governor between 1999 and 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy (AD), later represented Osun East in the Senate from 2003 to 2011, where he chaired the Senate Appropriations Committee.

He first contested the Osun governorship election in 2014 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but lost to then-incumbent governor, Rauf Aregbesola. He later joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and contested the 2018 election before moving to the APC in 2021.

In 2022, Omisore emerged as the National Secretary of the APC during the party’s national convention in Abuja after his main rival stepped down.

He is now expected to be one of the leading aspirants for the APC governorship ticket in the 2026 Osun race.
