Team Brazil delivered a spectacular performance to claim their first-ever victory in the all-electric E1 World Championship, dominating the inaugural African edition of the series — the E1 Lagos Grand Prix held over the weekend.

Piloted by Timmy Hansen, Team Brazil converted their pole position from Saturday’s qualifying into a flawless race-day triumph on Sunday. They maintained top pace throughout the event, setting the fastest times in both practice and qualifying before sealing victory in the final.

Team Blue Rising, owned by Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli, finished second, while Team Drogba Global Africa — co-owned by Ivorian football icon Didier Drogba and Gabrielle Lemaire — claimed third place to round off the podium.
The win earned Team Brazil 38 points, taking their season tally to 89 and lifting them to seventh in the overall standings ahead of next month’s season finale in Miami.

“We came to Lagos and had a fantastic time,” Hansen said. “It’s important to secure the best starting lane, and we managed that. I had a brilliant start, and it was smooth sailing from there. Full credit to the team.”
Despite missing the podium, Team Brady — owned by NFL legend Tom Brady — retained their spot atop the championship standings. Their fourth-place finish in Lagos earned them 19 points, extending their total to 154.
Team Rafa, owned by tennis great Rafael Nadal and piloted by Cris Lazarraga and Tom Chiappe, finished fifth with 17 points, bringing their overall tally to 151 — just three points behind Team Brady. Kohli’s Blue Rising sits third with 145 points.
The E1 Championship, which debuted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 2023, is the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing series. Lagos became the first African city to host the event, marking a major milestone for the continent.

Speaking after the race, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised the championship as a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and the city’s growing global stature.
“Hosting the E1 Series is not just about sports — it’s about innovation, environmental responsibility, and putting Lagos on the global map for future-focused development,” Sanwo-Olu said.
With the Lagos GP concluded, all eyes now turn to Miami for the season finale, where the championship title will be decided between Team Brady and Team Rafa.
