A 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit Ethiopia on Saturday, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).
The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) and was detected near latitude 13.77° N and longitude 39.91° E.
While there are no immediate reports of damage or casualties, experts are warning of potential volcanic activity in the region.
Ethiopia has experienced 29 earthquakes since the beginning of 2025, some stronger than 5.0 on the Richter scale, raising concerns about geological instability.
The Fentale area, one of Ethiopia’s most active volcanic hotspots, is being closely monitored after a series of earthquakes in the region sparked fears of a potential eruption.
