The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced a two-week nationwide warning strike starting October 13, 2025, due to the Federal Government’s failure to address long-standing issues affecting public universities.

ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, stated that the strike is a last-resort measure to compel the government to honor its commitments and avert a complete collapse of the public university system.

The union’s demands include implementing the renegotiated 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement, improving university funding, paying unpaid salary arrears, and resolving delays in staff promotions.

This strike may disrupt academic activities nationwide, with the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) also issuing a 14-day ultimatum over similar grievances.
