President Bola Tinubu has departed Abuja for Rome, Italy, to participate in the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government Level Meeting, a counter-terrorism initiative launched by King Abdullah II of Jordan in 2015.
The meeting, scheduled to begin on October 14, will focus on addressing the security crisis in West Africa, including the expansion of terrorist networks, the growing crime-terror nexus, and the increasing overlap between land-based terrorism in the Sahel and maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
Tinubu will be accompanied by key officials, including the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
During the meeting, participants will exchange assessments of the current security landscape in West Africa, foster collaboration between regional and international partners, and develop strategies to counter terror threats on land and sea, including combating online radicalization and disrupting digital networks used for terrorist propaganda and recruitment.
