Renowned Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has passed away at the age of 80.

His family confirmed his death in a statement on Monday, noting that the revered preacher “peacefully transitioned to glory” on October 6, 2025.

Describing his passing as a “glorious transition from a life of devoted service to eternal rest,” the family paid tribute to the late cleric’s lifelong dedication to evangelism, teaching, and prophetic ministry.

“Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity. His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for generations,” the statement read.

Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost evangelists and a spiritual father to many, Ukpai spent over six decades in ministry, conducting large-scale crusades across Nigeria and abroad. His work touched millions, promoting revival, faith, and unity in the Christian community.

Beyond his ministry, Ukpai was celebrated as a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor, whose influence extended beyond the pulpit through education, leadership training, and humanitarian initiatives.

The family expressed gratitude for his life and legacy, saying that while they mourn his passing, they take comfort in knowing “he has finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.”

Details of his funeral arrangements, they said, would be announced in due course.

Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai’s life and ministry, spanning more than six decades, stand as a powerful testament to the biblical verse: “To live is Christ, and to die is gain” — Philippians 1:21.
