The country’s constitutional council had earlier thrown out all petitions contesting the October 12 presidential election, paving the way for full results to be announced.

Incumbent President Paul Biya, 92, is widely expected to maintain his 43-year grip on power despite opposition claims of irregularities and calls for change.

Protests and clashes between security forces and opposition supporters have been reported in several cities, including Maroua and Garoua.
