The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced a total and indefinite strike action, set to begin at midnight on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

The decision follows the association’s National Executive Council meeting, where it was resolved that resident doctors across the country would withdraw their services due to the federal government’s persistent failure to meet their legitimate demands.

NARD President Dr. Muhammad Usman Suleiman stated that the strike will remain in force until both the federal and affected state governments demonstrate a genuine commitment to addressing the association’s grievances.

The resident doctors have expressed frustration over the government’s unresponsiveness, despite exhausting all avenues for dialogue.

According to Dr. Suleiman, this is the first total strike declared by the association in three years, and the doctors are determined to see their demands met.

The strike is expected to significantly impact healthcare services across Nigeria, with the NARD president appealing to President Bola Tinubu to intervene urgently to avert a total collapse of the healthcare system.

The association’s demands include the payment of basic minimum salaries, allowances, and other entitlements that have been outstanding.

Dr. Suleiman emphasized that the doctors are not asking for new benefits but rather the implementation of agreements already reached. The strike has been described as a “decisive course” by the association, and members have been urged to ensure total compliance, unity, and unwavering support.
