Justice Obiora Egwuatu delivered the judgment, holding that Gummi’s defection was unconstitutional and that he automatically lost his seat in the House of Representatives.

The court also ordered Gummi to refund all monies collected as salaries and allowances since his defection and restrained him from further receiving such payments.

Additionally, the court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election to fill the vacancy within 30 days.

The judge condemned the practice of political prostitution, emphasizing that politicians should respect the wishes of the electorate who voted them into office.
