The Federal High Court in Abuja has halted the Peoples Democratic Party’s planned national convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Justice James Omotosho ruled that the party failed to comply with statutory requirements, the Constitution, and the Electoral Act.

The court also restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission from accepting the convention’s outcome without due process.

This decision came after three aggrieved PDP members filed a suit, citing breach of the party’s constitution and lack of valid state congresses before the convention.

The court’s judgment emphasized that INEC is not entitled to give effect to a convention not done in accordance with the Constitution, Electoral Act, and guidelines/regulations of political parties.

The PDP has been directed to put its house in order and send the statutory 21-day notice before proceeding with the proposed convention. This development has significant implications for the party’s leadership and internal dynamics.
