China has expressed its firm support for the Nigerian government, opposing any form of external interference in the country’s internal affairs.

This stance comes after US President Donald Trump’s threat of military action against Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs and threatening them with sanctions and force.

Mao Ning made the remarks during a press conference in Beijing, reiterating China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development path suited to its national conditions.

The US had warned Nigeria of “possible action” if the alleged killing of Christians continued, with Trump labeling Nigeria a “disgraced country”.

However, President Bola Tinubu has denied claims of religious persecution, highlighting the country’s constitutional guarantee of religious freedom.
