Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has nominated former Finance Minister Mwigulu Nchemba as the country’s new Prime Minister, following last month’s disputed election.
Nchemba, who has held several key ministerial positions, is expected to be approved by parliament later today.
The opposition has accused Hassan’s government of rigging the election, which was followed by violent protests and allegations of mass killings, with reports suggesting hundreds or even over 1,000 people were killed.
Hassan has rejected criticism of her human rights record and defended the fairness of the election.
