The US has urged international action to cut off weapons supply to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), accused of systematic atrocities, including murder, rape, and sexual violence against civilians in el-Fasher.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken (referred to as Marco Rubio in the original text, likely an error) called for an end to the violence, stating that the RSF’s actions are horrific and need to stop immediately.
The RSF, backed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has been fighting Sudan’s army since April 2023, leading to thousands of deaths and millions displaced.
The UAE denies allegations of supporting the RSF, but evidence suggests they are a key arms supplier.
The US and G7 have condemned the violence, calling for a humanitarian ceasefire and transition to civilian rule.
