Plane Carrying Food Aid Crashes in South Sudan, Killing Three Crew Members

A plane carrying food aid for international charity Samaritan’s Purse crashed in South Sudan’s Unity State, killing all three crew members.

The aircraft, operated by Nari Air, was transporting 2 tonnes of supplies from the capital Juba to people displaced by floods.

The crash occurred around 20 km outside Leer Airstrip in Unity State’s Leer county near the Sudan border at approximately 8 a.m. local time.

Samaritan’s Purse deputy director Bikram Rai confirmed the crew members’ deaths, stating, “Our team has reached the crash site, and it is with deep sadness that I share the confirmation that all three crew members have passed away.” Nari Air has not responded to requests for comment.
