The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the defection of 16 Rivers State House of Assembly members, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a “redefection” and vowing to take legal action to reclaim the seats.
The PDP accused the lawmakers of acting on the instructions of their “paymaster and demigod,” Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and claimed they had consistently demonstrated behavior unbecoming of elected representatives.
The party stated that the lawmakers’ actions had reduced the state legislature to a tool for political manipulation and vowed to defend democratic principles and ensure voters’ mandates are not eroded through unconstitutional defections.
The PDP also urged its supporters in Rivers State to remain calm and loyal, assuring them that efforts were underway to rebuild the party along the path of inclusiveness, fairness, and equity.
